Jimmy Garoppolo will continue with the 49ers as a backup to Trey Lance after he was traded to San Francisco.
Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo stated on Monday that the 49ers and Garoppolo are finalizing
New contract that will make him the highest-paid backup quarterback in the NFL.
The deal is worth $6.5 million fully guaranteed with incentives that can push it to close to $16 million,
which lowers his future salary cap number from $26.95 million to around $8.5 million.
The contract that Garoppolo signed includes a no-trade clause and a no-franchise tag clause.
This guarantees that he has the freedom to choose where he goes and will be a free agent after this season.
After spending time rehabbing in training camp, a new development came on Monday morning.

The veteran quarterback underwent shoulder surgery and is now on the 49ers' roster as they wait to see if he will be able to play this season.
After the team traded up in 2021 to pick him, Lance was immediately inserted behind Garoppolo as the starter.
Later on, they handed the reins over to Lance and he became the face of the franchise.
